'People are fearful' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the team to beat.

Gabriel Magalhaes rejoices Arsenal's triumph over Crystal Palace

It's obvious why Arsenal stand as many people's favorites to claim the Premier League in the current campaign.

Look at their performances against West Ham and Crystal Palace versus those same matches last season.

The Gunners have beaten all of them during this campaign, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race in the prior campaign.

Impenetrable Backline

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a key reason why they are seeming ready to finally fulfil their title target.

They stand first for clean sheets (6), goals conceded (3), attempts against (72), shots on target faced (19) and xGA (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the finest in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Mastery

Their effectiveness from free kicks is widely recognized, but opposition teams still find it difficult to neutralize the Gunners from these chances.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just wary of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Credentials

What is particularly remarkable about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they continue triumphing, their historic competitors face difficulties. This marks the first time at this stage of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the start, having allocated around £250m on eight summer additions in quest of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far paid off in style, with his side second top scorers in the league and possessing the tightest defense, despite several injuries.

  • Shutouts in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without allowing a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across various contests

Former players and analysts have described Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now operating with conviction and determination.
